Purple Pup is our most distinctive kit, and the one that generates the most questions. What makes it purple? Is the color safe? Does it actually taste like anything? Here's the full story.
What makes it purple?
Two whole-food ingredients: beet powder and purple sweet potato powder. No artificial dyes. No food coloring. Just the naturally occurring pigments in two real plants. Beet powder gets its color from betalains, which are also studied for antioxidant activity. Purple sweet potato gets its color from anthocyanins — the same compounds that make blueberries and red cabbage purple. Together, they produce a color vibrant enough that the first time you roll out the dough, you'll probably stop and take a photo before cutting a single treat.

Is it safe?
Completely. Both beet and purple sweet potato are foods that dogs can eat safely. The amounts used are well within any reasonable safety threshold. Fair warning: the color may show up in your dog's output for a day or two. This is normal and harmless.
What does it taste like?

The visual payoff
Purple Pup produces the most photogenic batch of any kit we make. On a white plate or wooden cutting board, they photograph beautifully. If you're someone who bakes and shares photos, this is the kit for you.
How to bake a batch
Same simple process as all our kits: add water to the mix, knead into a dough, roll to ¼ inch, cut, bake at 350°F for 16–20 minutes, cool in the oven for an hour. About 90 treats per kit. If it's your first time, our beginner's guide has everything you need.
