Product questions
What's in the kit?
Each kit includes all the dry ingredients you need to make a batch of dog treats — oat flour, rolled oats, chia seeds, golden flax seeds, parsley, and a flavor-specific ingredient (peanut butter powder, nutritional yeast, or beet and purple sweet potato powder depending on the flavor). The kit also includes one bone-shaped treat cutter. You provide the water.
Do I need anything besides the kit?
Just water, a mixing bowl, a rolling pin, and a baking sheet. That's it. No eggs, no oil, no extra pantry trips.
How many treats does one kit make?
Approximately 90 treats, depending on how thick you roll your dough. Plenty to last a while — or to share.
How long does the whole thing take?
About 30–40 minutes start to finish, including 16–20 minutes in the oven and an hour to cool fully inside the oven once baked. The active hands-on time is about 10 minutes.
Baking questions
What temperature do I bake at?
350°F (175°C). Prepare your baking sheets with non-stick spray or parchment paper.
What if my dough is too sticky?
Add a little more of the reserved mix (we recommend setting aside about ¼ cup before you start). Dust your rolling surface and the top of the dough. A slightly sticky dough is normal — just use enough flour to keep it workable.
What if my dough is too crumbly?
Add water a tablespoon at a time, mixing between additions. The dough should come together when pressed but still feel slightly crumbly before you knead it.
Can I use cookie cutters other than the one included?
Absolutely. Standard cookie cutters work great. Seasonal shapes (bones, stars, pumpkins) make for fun photos.
Can I freeze the dough for later?
Yes! Wrap unused dough tightly and freeze. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before rolling and baking. Many customers make a batch, freeze half the dough, and bake the rest a few weeks later with no issues.
Ingredient and safety questions
Are oats safe for dogs?
Yes. Oats are one of the most digestible grains for dogs. Our kits use oat flour and rolled oats as the base — a gentle, wheat-free alternative that's easy on most dogs' stomachs.
Is peanut butter safe for dogs?
Peanut butter is generally safe for dogs in moderate amounts. The important thing to know is that xylitol (an artificial sweetener used in some peanut butter brands) is toxic to dogs. Our peanut butter powder contains no xylitol. The ingredients are: peanut powder, palm sugar, and salt.
Are these treats safe for puppies?
Yes. The ingredients are gentle and appropriate for dogs of all ages. For very young puppies (under 8 weeks), check with your vet first.
Are all kits vegan?
Yes. All three Scratch Treats kits — Peanut Butter Original, Vegan Cheeze, and Purple Pup — are fully plant-based with no animal-derived ingredients.
Are the treats wheat-free?
Yes. We use oat flour instead of wheat flour in all kits.
Storage questions
How long do the treats last at room temperature?
About 5 days in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
Can I refrigerate them?
Yes. In an airtight container in the fridge, baked treats last about 2 weeks.
Can I freeze the finished treats?
Yes. Frozen treats keep for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving, or give frozen for a fun crunchy treat on a hot day.

Yes, we ship to all 50 states.

What is Project POOCH?
Project POOCH is a non-profit organization that pairs youth in the justice system with shelter dogs. The youth learn vocational skills and responsibility by training and caring for dogs, helping the dogs become more adoptable. A portion of every Scratch Treats sale goes directly to Project POOCH.
