Our Ingredients: What Goes Into Every Scratch Treats Kit

We believe you should know exactly what goes into your dog's treat jar. No mystery blends or ingredients you can't pronounce—just honest, simple components we’ve sourced ourselves and tested in our own kitchens. Here is the breakdown of what we use and why we chose it.

The base

Oat Flour + Rolled Oats

This is the heart of every biscuit we bake. We use oat flour and rolled oats to create a sturdy, satisfying crunch without relying on the heavy wheat fillers found in most store-bought bags. It’s a gentle foundation that’s easy on the stomach and provides a wholesome base that bakes up beautifully every time.

The superfoods

Chia Seeds

These tiny seeds do a lot of heavy lifting. We add them to our mix because they are a powerhouse for keeping your dog's coat looking thick and shiny. They add a nice little texture to the dough, and while your pup might not notice them, you'll definitely see the results in their healthy, lustrous fur.

Golden Flax Seeds

We’ve included golden flax seeds because they’ve been a staple of good dog nutrition for a long time. They help keep things moving along smoothly in the digestive department and add a mild, nutty quality to the kit that dogs really seem to appreciate.

The freshness

Parsley

There is a reason our kitchen smells so good when these are in the oven. Parsley isn’t just for looks; it’s a natural way to help with that "stinky dog breath" we all know too well. It adds a fresh, herbal note to the dough that makes the whole baking experience a lot more pleasant for the humans, too.

Freeze-Dried Blueberries (selected kits)

We use freeze-dried blueberries to pack in a punch of real fruit flavor without making the dough soggy. They are full of antioxidants, and dogs find that natural, slightly tart sweetness completely irresistible. It’s a whole-food addition you can actually see in the mix.

The flavor ingredients

Peanut Butter Powder (Peanut Butter Original)

This is the one that brings the "butt wiggles." Our powder is made from real peanuts, a touch of palm sugar, and a pinch of salt. Most importantly, it contains no xylitol—the artificial sweetener that is toxic to dogs. It gives you all the aromatic, high-protein goodness of peanut butter in a low-mess, safe format.

Nutritional Yeast (Vegan Cheeze)

This is the secret to our savory Vegan Cheeze kit. It’s an inactive yeast that provides a deep, "cheesy" umami flavor that dogs go wild for, without using any actual dairy or artificial flavorings. It’s a simple way to make a treat taste indulgent while keeping it entirely plant-based.

Beet Powder + Purple Sweet Potato (Purple Pup)

We wanted a vibrant treat without the chemical dyes. Beet powder and purple sweet potato provide that stunning purple color naturally. They are gentle on the stomach and full of antioxidants, proving that you don't need industrial food coloring to make something look special.

What we leave out

We skip the shortcuts. When you bake with Scratch Treats, you’re using real food—not the industrial additives that have no business being in your dog’s treat jar. Many store-bought brands rely on these chemicals to keep products shelf-stable for years, but we believe fresh is best.

Here is what you will never find in our bags:

  • Artificial Preservatives (like BHA or BHT)

  • "Meat By-Products" and mystery fillers

  • Corn syrup and added sugars

  • Artificial colors and dyes

  • Propylene Glycol

  • Chemical stabilizers

We’d rather keep it simple, honest, and delicious.
